About The Position

The Seasonal Wonder Wagon Education Facilitator is responsible for delivering engaging, high-quality off-site learning experiences through the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum’s Wonder Wagon program. This role serves as the primary facilitator for Wonder Wagon events, traveling to community events, neighborhood gatherings, and festivals across Milwaukee to bring hands-on, play-based learning directly to children and families. The Facilitator is a friendly, reliable, and confident presence representing the Museum in the community. This position focuses on program execution, guest engagement, safety, and logistics, ensuring that each Wonder Wagon experience is welcoming, inclusive, and aligned with the Museum’s mission to inspire all children to wonder and explore through play.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; coursework or degree in Education, Child Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children and families, ideally in an educational, nonprofit, camp, or museum setting.
  • Comfort working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including sun, heat, wind, and light rain, as Wonder Wagon events take place at community sites and festivals.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and comfortable driving a large van.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, depending on event schedules.
  • Strong alignment with the mission and values of the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, and approachable demeanor with a strong commitment to excellent guest experiences.
  • Comfort facilitating hands-on activities with children of varying ages in public, outdoor, or community settings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism when working with community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when managing supplies and event logistics.
  • Ability to problem-solve on the fly and adapt to changing environments or schedules.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and set up program materials and equipment.
  • Passion for early childhood education, play-based learning, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site facilitator for all Wonder Wagon events during the summer season.
  • Drive the Wonder Wagon van to off-site locations including community events, neighborhood parties, festivals, and partner sites.
  • Set up, facilitate, and break down hands-on educational activities designed for early learners and families.
  • Actively engage children, caregivers, and community partners in play-based learning experiences.
  • Represent the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in a positive, professional, and welcoming manner at all outreach events.
  • Adapt facilitation style to meet the needs of diverse audiences, ages, and settings.
  • Ensure all Wonder Wagon experiences are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with Museum standards.
  • On occasion, support the facilitation of Museum floor programming and field-trip add on programs as opportunities arise
  • Manage day-of logistics for Wonder Wagon events, including arrival, setup, supplies, and cleanup.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following Museum safety protocols and responding calmly to any issues or emergencies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the Wonder Wagon and program materials.
  • Communicate clearly with Museum staff and community partners regarding schedules, needs, and on-site conditions.
  • Track attendance and basic participation data for Wonder Wagon events, as directed and in partnership with the Community Access Coordinator.
  • Provide feedback and observations to support program evaluation and improvement.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and restocking of Wonder Wagon supplies.
  • Complete required documentation and reports accurately and on time.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
