About The Position

This seasonal position with the City of Hutchinson's Zoo Rehabilitation team involves providing animal care and maintaining rehabilitation facilities. The role assists with wildlife rehab animal intakes, discusses found animals with guests, and provides guidance. It also includes performing routine feedings, diet preparation, medical exams, and accessioning animals from the public. The intern will maintain detailed narratives and charts of animal observation, care, and medical treatments, identifying and communicating concerns to management. Additionally, the position requires maintaining supply inventories and performing housekeeping chores. The City of Hutchinson employs over 400 individuals and aims to make Hutchinson a great place to live, work, and play.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 to apply

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates pursuing an animal related educational field are preferred
  • one or more years of animal care experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with wildlife rehab animal intakes; discuss found animals with guests and provide guidance
  • Perform routine feedings and diet preparation
  • Perform medical exams
  • Accession of animals from the public
  • Maintain detailed narratives and charts of animal observation, care and medical treatments
  • Identify and communicate concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Maintain supply inventories
  • Perform all related housekeeping chores and other duties as required
