About The Position

The Seasonal Animal Care Technician supports the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center during peak wildlife intake season by assisting with daily animal care, facility sanitation, and operational support. This position plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of animal welfare while supporting the mission. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center cares for a wide variety of species; however, this role involves a significant focus on rabies' vector species and requires strict adherence to safety protocols. Seasonal employment typically begins in May and concludes in September, with exact start and end dates determined based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Experience in wildlife or animal husbandry preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations involving animals or workload demands.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required during peak season.
  • Ability to frequently bend, lift, and handle animals and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold the mission and values of Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh in all aspects of the role.
  • Perform daily husbandry tasks for all animals at the Wildlife Center, which includes but is not limited to cage cleaning, diet prep and distribution, enrichment and routine observation of both ambassadors and patients
  • Assist with the handfeeding of orphaned patients, both avian and mammal species
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of animal care areas, treatment spaces, kitchen areas, and offices.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including dishes, laundry, and sanitation of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining proper husbandry and observational records for patient and ambassador husbandry needs
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, interns, and visitors.
  • Support the training and guidance of volunteers and interns as directed.
  • Follow all policies, safety standards, and procedures established by Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center leadership
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager
