About The Position

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Seasonal Sports Dietitian to support the department's Sports Nutrition office. Under the direction of the Director of Sports Nutrition, this position is primarily responsible for the development and coordination of optimal nutritional services for Division I student-athletes and the Athletics Department of the University of Virginia. This position will help with both football nutrition and Olympic sports nutrition. In addition to providing nutrition education, other duties of the position include but are not limited to: managing the central fueling station; overseeing undergraduate student volunteers, stocking off-site fueling locations; assisting in the daily operation of feeding student-athletes; receiving deliveries; managing inventory; and performing other duties as necessary to build support for and add value to the objectives and goals of the unit, Department of Athletics, and University. The position is intended to be a one-year position with the potential to renew for a second year. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Sports Nutrition.
  • Some experience in a field related to Sports Nutrition.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to make sound judgments independently or as a team member.
  • Ability to instruct, counsel and direct student-athletes, and to support coaches, psychologists, and food services.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the nutrition needs, athletic and social pressures faced by student athletes at the collegiate level.
  • The ability to lift 25 pounds regularly.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers and software: Microsoft Office.
  • Must have valid driver's license and transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's Degree in a field related to Sports Nutrition.
  • Experience in sports nutrition, exercise physiology, and with skin-fold.
  • Registered Dietician through the AND/CDR.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Development and coordination of optimal nutritional services for Division I student-athletes.

Benefits

  • Anticipated hiring rate: $15.00/hour.
