About The Position

George Fox University's Theatre program is seeking a Scenic Carpenter to support its production team during peak build periods. This hands-on role is key to bringing our stage designs to life. About the Job: The Scenic Carpenter will help bring productions to life by building scenery for theatre productions according to pre-determined designs, under the direction of the scene shop manager. This role provides essential support during peak production periods-typically three times per year in the weeks leading up to a theatre performance-playing a key part in transforming creative concepts into dynamic stage environments.

Requirements

  • Experience in construction of scenery for live theatre.
  • Excellent carpentry and construction skills.
  • Expertise in safe and proper use of a wide variety of power tools.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of scenic techniques and materials.
  • Ability to read construction drawings.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to be on feet for long periods of time, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Constructing scenery and properties for theatre production, under the direction of the theatre technical director and/or scene shop manager.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
