About The Position

The Seasonal Recreation Specialist for the City of Des Moines is responsible for supervising and directing specialized areas within the city's recreation program, particularly during the summer camp season. This role involves leading various recreational activities, training staff, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants in programs held at multiple parks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
• Satisfactory criminal, sex offender, and driving record background checks.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and directs specialized recreation activities within the city's program.
• Leads assigned activities and supervises others in leading activities.
• Trains staff in leadership techniques, activity planning, safety, and public relations.
• Organizes and supervises activities such as summer playground programs, aquatics, day camps, arts and cultural activities, and sports.
• Recruits and trains staff and volunteers for program implementation and safety assurance.
• Tracks participation statistics and maintains necessary records.
• Submits required reports.

Benefits

• Temporary full-time position with up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
• Competitive hourly wage of $15.75 - $16.75.
