Apply today! Grand Canyon University’s Police Department is seeking full time Police Officers to ensure the safety and security of the GCU campus. The GCU Police Department performs general and specialized police work involving the enforcement of laws and ordinances, crime prevention, and other community services. What you will do: Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of sworn law enforcement staff involved in traffic and campus patrol, investigations, crime prevention, community relations and related services and activities. Prepare, process, and maintain a variety of written reports and records pertaining to assigned activities, e.g., daily activity reports, Review incident reports, required forms, summons, records, and related documents prepared by subordinates to ensure accuracy and timely completion; correct or instruct officers to make corrections. Interpret, convey, and ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and methods; ensure all personnel have clear guidelines of authority and responsibility. Approve and submit timesheets, and payroll information for Campus Police Officers. Enforce state laws, rules and regulations governing safety and security on college campus and at college events and ensures compliance with CLERY Act, VAWA and Title 9 related requirements. Participate in shift activities as necessary including enforcing local and state laws; issue citations and make arrests. Develop or assist in the development of training of new Police Officers, ensuring that all officers receive their annual training hours as mandated by AZPOST and their annual firearms training and range time is up to date. May coordinate and/or conduct campus safety education and training for police officers, faculty, staff, and students. This may include coordinating the active shooter exercises each year as well as any other emergency management response training. Respond to fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events; Coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities such as opening shelters, special needs programs and evacuation. Escort or drives motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection. Other duties as assigned. Equipment Used and Responsibility Knowledge of all pertinent federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations, GCU policies and procedures, Police Department policy and procedure, CLERY Act, FERPA, VAWA and Title 9 requirements Knowledge of campus safety and security procedures. Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of university police enforcement program. Ability to accurately interpret applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Knowledge of rules of evidence pertaining to search, seizure, and preservation. Knowledge of techniques and applications of self-defense and proper use of force. Knowledge of methods and techniques used in interviewing witnesses, victims, or suspects. Effectively use and qualify with law enforcement tools and weapons, including firearms, batons, defensive tactics, and other safety equipment. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. MS Office Suite proficiency. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise 5-10 GCU Police Officers. What you will need: Minimum of 60 college credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college/university in criminal justice, police science, public administration, political science, or similar discipline. 5 Years’ experience as AZ post certified peace officer; active within last 3 years (Minimum of 2 in supervisory role) Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and daily responsibilities, such as ability to chase on foot, apprehend, subdue, and restrain criminal offenders. CPR First Aid and/or First Responder Certification Specialty law enforcement/safety certifications/qualifications, e.g., training instructor, emergency management specialist. Must successfully attain and maintain Arizona Peace Officer Standards Training (AZPOST) certification. Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends depending on scheduled events. Must successfully complete a background investigation, polygraph, medical and psych exam.
