DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the General Manager of Parks Maintenance or Parks Full Time Staff.: 1. Completes assigned maintenance work. 2. Duties include but not limited to; mowing/trimming grass, pruning, litter pick up, minor repairs to park elements, special event set up/take down, etc. 3. Observes and complies with all established safety procedures regarding assigned work. 4. Must take direction well and be sufficiently skilled to perform a wide variety of outdoor maintenance tasks with or without direct supervision. 5. Reports all observed unsafe park situations, including the condition and operation of grounds, buildings and equipment, to the General Manager of Parks Maintenance. 6. Presents a positive image to park patrons and District residents. 7. Attends departmental training/staff meetings. 8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Parks Supervisor. Marginal Functions: The Seasonal Park Maintenance employee must work harmoniously with other employees of the Park District. Psychological Considerations: A Seasonal Park Maintenance employee may feel added pressure from being ultimately held responsible for the quality of maintenance needed to keep all District-owned real estate and buildings in a safe, usable and aesthetically pleasing condition. The Park Maintenance I employee will work closely with co-workers, and be in the constant view of the general population and park patrons. The Seasonal Park Maintenance employee may be exposed to a variety of demands including, but not limited to, prolonged standing, occasionally sitting, walking stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing steps or a ladder, use of hands to perform job tasks, reaching, bending, talking, seeing, hearing, pulling and lifting 50 pounds. In addition, the Seasonal Park Maintenance employee will be exposed to gasoline and diesel fuel and other automotive fluids, various chemical and cleaning agents. On a daily basis, the Seasonal Park Maintenance could be around equipment and vehicles that could damage the hearing, eyesight or cause dismemberment of a body appendage. Environmental Considerations: The Seasonal Park Maintenance employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions including, but not limited to, extreme cold, hot, snow, rain and ice. Wearing protective clothing and equipment will be required in performing certain job tasks that call for protective clothing and equipment. The employer will issue earplugs, safety glasses, safety vest and hard hat to the employee. Cognitive Considerations: The Seasonal Park Maintenance employee: 1. Must have the ability to read, speak and write in English. 2. Must be able to follow directions from the immediate supervisor, with safe follow- through. 3. Must exhibit good safety awareness and judgment
