About the position

The Town of Monument aspires to provide leadership that delivers municipal services responsibly, while working to inspire public confidence to achieve the vision of the future. This position performs outdoor maintenance activities such as: erosion control, patching potholes, repairing, installing street signs and banners, storm water system maintenance, emptying trash, painting facilities, weed control, pruning trees, removing trees as necessary, park improvements, playground maintenance, and other duties as assigned. Working hours are generally from 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Employment will be approximately from May 20, 2023, till early August 2023.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine ground maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, pruning, to keep park grounds neat and attractive.
• Clear debris, repair erosion and ensuring proper signage and maintenance of Town trails and parks.
• Assist with the upkeep of park buildings, restrooms, picnic areas and other facilities by cleaning, small repairs, and restocking supplies as needed.
• Assist with special events within the parks including set-up and clean up as needed.
• Operate equipment needed to perform ground maintenance safely and efficiently.
• Demonstrate the knowledge needed to aid with park maintenance and landscape maintenance.
• Understand and adhere to the safety rules provided for the position.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Show initiative.
• Work with Town staff to cultivate friendly manner and create effective working relationships.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.
• Candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
• Experience maintaining parks, open space, or similar locations.
• Planting, pruning and maintenance of similar environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, town officials, developers, contractors, and the general public.
• Effective collaboration and team-building skills are necessary for success.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
