About The Position

Park Rangers assist Park Managers by providing protection of park patrons and park property. Park Rangers explain park and recreation rules and regulations and seek voluntary compliance and patrol through assigned areas such as campgrounds, beaches, cabin areas, marinas, trails, gorges, picnic areas and comfort stations. They respond to patron inquiries, provide information on the natural resources, facilities, recreational activities and the condition and accessibility of trails and other facility resources. Park Rangers are subject to the provisions of the Security Guard Act of 1993, are unarmed and have neither peace nor police officer status. This is a seasonal-only position, generally from late May to Labor Day. POSITIONS AVAILABLE Positions for Park Rangers exist in all regions in the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, which include: Allegany, Central, Finger Lakes, Genesee, Long Island, New York City, Niagara, Palisades, Saratoga, Taconic and Thousand Islands. Saratoga Region Includes: Cherry Plain State Park, Grafton Lakes State Park, Hudson River Islands State Park, Max V. Shaul State Park, Mine Kill State Park, Moreau Lake State Park, Peebles Island State Park, Saratoga Lake State Boat Launch, Saratoga Spa State Park, Schodack Island State Park, Thacher State Park, Thompson's Lake Campground - Thacher State Park

Requirements

  • Must be at least age 18 at time of appointment
  • Have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Have a valid NYS Drivers License when required to drive state vehicles
  • Meet certain physical and medical requirements
  • Be of good moral character and successfully complete a background investigation
  • Successfully complete 24 hours of Security Guard training provided by NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
  • Possess basic computer and smartphone skills
  • Have a valid NYS issued ID
