About The Position

As a seasonal, full-time Park Ranger Assistant, you will support State Park staff in protecting, maintaining, operating, and repairing park lands, including natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment, and systems. In this position, you'll typically focus on basic tasks within a specific area of park operations—such as janitorial duties, landscaping, interpretive services, or visitor support. Some roles may involve responsibilities across multiple areas. Additional duties could include entry-level work in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, or general maintenance. You may also be responsible for leading or assisting in the supervision of volunteers, as well as seasonal or temporary park staff. We recruit for seasonal positions each year that generally work April through September; however, the duration may vary depending on the park's specific needs. Housing is not available at this location.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of experience performing public contact or customer service duties or maintenance experience.
  • Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours).
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Must complete a criminal record and driving record check that meets OPRD Criteria.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in using interpersonal skills and communicating well within a team.
  • Experience communicating facility or park rules to guests and ensuring compliance.
  • Experience in the safe use of hand and motorized tools related to maintenance.
  • Experience performing maintenance tasks related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general mechanical work.
  • Experience performing custodial duties including cleaning public restroom facilities.
  • Experience in using a computer for customer registration and reservation systems.
