About The Position

As a seasonal, full-time Park Ranger Assistant, at Devil's Lake State Recreation Area near Lincoln City, Oregon, you'll help support one of Oregon’s greatest resources – State Parks! Devil's Lake State Recreation Area includes two parks on opposite sides of the lake: the west shore campground, just minutes from downtown Lincoln City and a short walk to the beach, and East Devil’s Lake State Park, a day-use park with a boat launch. You will assist year-round State Park staff in the protection, maintenance, operation, and repair of park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment, and systems. You will perform basic tasks in areas such as janitorial work, landscape maintenance, interpretation, or visitor services, with some positions requiring tasks across multiple areas. Basic skills in building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and landscape maintenance, may be required, along with specialized park maintenance skills. You may also guide teams of volunteers, seasonal, and/or temporary state park employees on specific tasks. We recruit for seasonal positions each year that generally work April through September; however, the duration may vary depending on the park's specific needs. Housing is NOT available at this location.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.); OR Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)
  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

  • Skill in providing people with Park rule information and asking for compliance.
  • Self-initiative and self-motivated to start tasks and follow through to get them done in a timely fashion.
  • Computer knowledge including data entry and registration of customers, fee collection, and cash handling.
