About The Position

Join the Harris Beach Team as a Seasonal Park Ranger 1 - Where Impact Meets Opportunity! At Harris Beach State Park, we're looking for a passionate and motivated individual to join our team as a Seasonal Park Ranger 1 for a full-time, 9-month position. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
  • An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
  • Must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Must pass a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive computer systems and data entry experience including fee collection, cash handling, customer registration.
  • Conflict resolution expertise including resolving customer complaints, particularly those related to overnight camping or interpreting park rules.
  • Exceptional customer service experience in public-facing roles successfully managing public interactions.
  • Volunteer coordination experience, coordinating, managing, and training volunteers.
  • Team collaboration experience maintaining a positive attitude and contributing to a cohesive workplace culture.
  • Independent project management skills, initiating and managing projects independently.
  • Strong communication skills, effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, and other stakeholders in workplace setting.
  • Technical skills and adaptability including successfully learning and applying new maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Extensive hands-on maintenance experience in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, landscaping, and general facility maintenance.
  • Leadership experience managing diverse teams, volunteers, or youth crews.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance expertise operating and maintaining tools and machinery, including troubleshooting and maintaining various equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain restroom facilities, picnic areas, and parking lots, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all park guests.
  • Facilitate smooth campground operations by assisting with check-ins, check-outs, fee collection, and registration, providing clear communication and a friendly presence.
  • Preserve the park's natural beauty by performing trail brushing, mowing, trimming, and other landscaping tasks, keeping paths accessible and grounds pristine.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to visitors, answer questions, and share knowledge about park resources. Provide support, guidance, and appreciation to our valued volunteers.
  • Inspect signage, maintain cluster boards, and assist with graffiti removal to ensure all areas remain functional and visually appealing.
  • Work closely with fellow staff and volunteers, fostering a sense of community where everyone feels valued and supported.
