This position is responsible for daily care and administration of children enrolled in an outdoor summer camp setting; hire, train, and develop all staff associated with program; ensure the health and safety of the children in the program at all times (including on field trips and at the pool). Responsible for direct interaction with the children in games, activities, and free play. Ensures that both JCPRD and KDHE guidelines are followed. Plan daily lessons to be executed throughout the week; schedule and accompany off-site field trips. Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized program. Effectively communicate with parents, children, supervisors, and co-workers. Must exhibit initiative by demonstrating leadership without being prompted. Display professionalism always. Provide excellent customer service. Attend all required in-service trainings and meetings. Enjoy the outdoors Outdoor Summer Camp locations are at Big Bull Creek, Heritage Park, Antioch Park, Stoll Park, Harmon Park, Shawnee Mission Park, and Trail Ridge Middle School. Monday - Friday, hours will vary between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years and older.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • One year experience working with children 5-12 years of age in a licensed childcare/camp setting.
  • Qualified candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize personal responsibilities and accomplish job tasks with autonomy from close supervision, as well as leadership and supervisory skills required.
  • Required to obtain KDHE Director's certificate.
  • Pass KBI background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Physical Education, Administration of Parks and Recreation, Early Childhood, Child Psychology, or relevant field.
  • JCPRD requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department.
