About The Position

As a Seasonal Natural Resources employee, you'll support the maintenance and restoration of natural areas including prairies, wetlands, forests, and other native plant communities. This role provides hands-on experience in land stewardship, invasive species control, and ecological restoration. What You'll Do Identify and remove invasive plant species using herbicides and various hand and power tools. Operate motorized equipment such as brush saws, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, and planting drills, as well as standard hand tools. Perform physically demanding tasks including digging, brush clearing, and moving heavy materials or equipment. Drive trucks, ATVs, and other vehicles to access and work across natural areas. Collect and process native seeds to support habitat restoration projects. Maintain accurate records for timekeeping and herbicide tracking. Follow safety procedures and contribute to a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment. Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to deliver excellent service and support team success. Perform additional tasks as needed to support restoration efforts.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Must be able to obtain an IL Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operator's license within 1 month of employment.
  • Basic knowledge of native and non-native plant and animal species.
  • Comfortable working in wilderness and in remote areas.
  • Report each day wearing long pants and boots.
