About The Position

The Transportation Division is looking for an individual to perform skilled work in operation of motorized equipment in the area of traffic control and maintenance operations. This position will have a schedule of Tuesday through Saturday, from 7am to 3:30pm, with some variance to that schedule as necessary. This individual will assist signs and pavement marking maintenance operation including removal and installation of signs; installation of thermoplastic arrows, stop bars and crosswalks and removal of existing pavement markings. May set and remove traffic cones when working with the long line striping crew. Will be required to assist traffic control set ups for maintenance as well as special events. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job functions- such as lift sand bags, barricades and other related equipment and tools. Operates dump truck and light equipment in snow removal and assists with emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three years related experience and/or training in the operation of motorized equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience and knowledge of computer graphic software and equipment used for fabrication and installation of signs and markings.
  • Possession of a valid appropriate class A, B, or C commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance tasks such as chair and table repairs, rough carpentry, light equipment repair, concrete work, storm drain repair and related tasks.
  • Operates and maintains various types of hand and small power tools.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory and control for all tools, maintenance and equipment.
  • Assists with event support, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed.
  • May be responsible for fabrication, maintenance, and installation of traffic control, pavement markings and barricade signage according to City guidelines and uniformity.
