The Park Board of Trustees is currently hiring for Lifeguards to perform emergency services for our park in the Galveston, TX area. This position in tourism and hospitality earns a competitive wage of $7.25/hour during Lifeguard Academy and $18+/hour after successful completion of the academy. At the end of the season, a longevity incentive of $2 per hour worked is paid to lifeguards who work more than 500 hours during the season. This position in tourism and hospitality typically works from mid-March to mid-October with shifts falling between the hours of 7 AM - 9 PM. The beach parks are open seven days a week. In this hospitality position, you play a crucial role in guarding the beach from an assigned lifeguard tower to protect beachgoers. You monitor all activity on the beach and respond to emergencies both in the water and within an assigned patrol area. When needed, you administer emergency medical care, first aid, and CPR as well as use emergency rescue equipment. During emergency situations on land or in the water, you act as a first responder in search and rescue services as well as the removal of hazardous materials from the beach. In addition, you operate radio equipment for emergency responsive communications. To maintain public safety, you enforce all beach ordinances while abiding by written Galveston Beach Patrol policies and procedures as per the training manual. You document any issues and perform accurate computer operations when necessary. Ensuring the beach remains a safe place is of utmost importance to you, and you find great satisfaction in helping others!
