About The Position

To assist with maintenance activities on the County's highway system. This position is responsible for installing and repairing traffic signs on County roads, bridges and other facilities.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age as of hire date (beginning of season)
• Possess a valid Minnesota driver's license

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the operation of road and maintenance equipment
• Experience performing routine preventative maintenance on various types of motor vehicles/equipment
• Knowledge of highway sign creation, placement, and installation.
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of light and moderately complex construction and maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of the Stearns County highway system.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in the use of tools, equipment, and vehicles associated with sign creation, complex construction and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to maintain a safe work environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assists with installing and maintaining highway signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
• Carries signs and performs other lifting and moving of heavy objects and materials.
• Removes brush and trees from roadways using hands and power tools.
• Cuts trees and brush with hand power tools.
• Assists Maintenance Workers as needed.
• Assists the Mechanic as needed.
• Attends work regularly and in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
