About The Position

Since 1982, over 160,000 youth have been helped with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) programs. Y.O.U. helps teens and young adults, ages 14-24 living in economically distressed communities succeed by providing educational and workforce opportunities, skills development, and access to career pathways. We offer school-based and community-based programs designed to meet the needs of Northeast Ohio employers, with a focus on those industry sectors that provide the most opportunities for career success. At Y.O.U., we are dedicated to excellence and continuous improvement of the quality of our services to youth, employers, and the community. Job Purpose Job Coaches work directly with our youth participants and their families beginning with orientation prior to the participant’s start date. The Job Coach mentors and coaches the youth/young adult through their work experience, in areas such as navigating the supervisor-employee relationship and emphasizing soft-skills development through one-on-one sessions with the youth. The Job Coach visits the participant’s work site at least 2-3 times a week. In addition, the Job Coach works with the youth participant and the work site supervisor to ensure all youth payroll information has been entered accurately into Y.O.U.’s electronic timekeeping system to efficiently process youth payroll. We are looking for individuals who have experience in mentoring, coaching, or teaching youth with polished customer service skills.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Communications, Education, Social Work) from an accredited college or university preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekend shifts.
Must have experience working in a leadership, mentor, or coach role with youth/young adults.
Must have experience in customer service and strong data entry skills.
Must have experience with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
Must have experience working with diverse populations and/or at-risk youth and young adults.
Must have valid transportation to/from Y.O.U. offices, partner organizations, and other community-based locations to meet with staff and participants.
Must pass a background BCI/FBI check as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Conduct program orientations for youth participants.
Maintain accurate and complete orientation files for each youth participant and ensure integrity of the file is preserved.
Build and maintain working relationships with program youth and their families as well as work site supervisors.
Maintain a consistent presence at participant worksites throughout the week once the program begins in June.
Ensure youth participants are being properly supervised, labor laws are being followed, and program quality is upheld at the worksite.
Provide Y.O.U.’s career readiness curriculum through ongoing mentorship throughout the summer.
Review youth timesheets each week during the work experience for accuracy and completion. Must resolve any discrepancies timely and efficiently and maintain accurate reports of the process.
Serve as the primary contact for youth participants and their family for questions regarding the program, work experience, and payroll-related questions.
Enter case notes about participant progress as trained and directed by program staff.
Maintain and update worksite contact information regularly and as needed.
Assist youth participant with all aspects of program enrollment including completion of application paperwork, work permit process, health exams, and employment forms as needed.
Resolve issues at worksites that may arise in such a way that both the youth participant and supervisor feel supported.
Attend and participate in staff/team meetings as scheduled and required.
Submit Pre/Post Evaluations, Participant Satisfaction Surveys and other reports and paperwork in timely fashion and as directed by Team Leader and Program Manager.
