About The Position

The Seasonal Horticulture Assistant will assist the Horticulturist in maintaining the Connecticut College greenhouse and Arboretum outdoor plant collections. This position is temporary, starting in January and ending in August, and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week for a total of 16 weeks.

Requirements

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent with one year of related experience, required
• Knowledge of plant care normally acquired through completion of one or more years of study in horticulture, botany, landscape design, or related field
• Previous work experience in a related field and/or career aspirations in horticulture or related field
• Knowledge of plant maintenance
• Strong organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines
• Ability to build and sustain key relationships with students, researchers, staff and faculty members
• Ability to operate, maintain and repair hand and power equipment

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance of the indoor and outdoor plant collections to include natural and managed areas
• Assist with the propagation and maintenance of adequate supplies of varied plants for academic courses, research projects and ornamental purposes
• Maintain and service tools, equipment and machinery; extend life of equipment by performing regular maintenance
• Other duties as necessary or as assigned
