About The Position

Girl Scout camp is where many campers find their strengths and challenge themselves as they navigate activities on the water, at the campsite, and along the trail. Girl Scouts River Valleys’ camp sessions allow campers to develop a strong sense of self and positive values, build healthy relationships, seek challenges, and have fun while making memories of a lifetime! Our campers treasure the relationships and sense of community they develop with our camp staff. Your passion can make a difference in the lives of girls! Our Healthcare Directors further the camp mission by providing care and support to campers. They provide the highest quality experience for campers by overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff.

Requirements

  • Experience in first aid and emergency management.
  • Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.
  • Community health knowledge.
  • RN, EMT, or advanced first aid certification
  • Must have current First Aid and professional CPR.
  • Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all people of all ages.
  • Ability to complete the Girl Scouts safe driving program and become qualified to drive
  • Passionate about delivering an inclusive Girl Scout experience.
  • Knowledge of common food born illnesses and allergies.
  • Ability to identify and remove ticks, lice, and other “undesirables”.
  • Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently.
  • Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
  • Ability to live or work in the rustic, communal setting of summer camp with campers and staff of all ages.
  • Ability to work with all people without regard to race, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or social, ethnic and economic background.
  • Ability to conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Ability to use a telephone.
  • Maintain written record system.
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain.
  • Observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp.
  • Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.
  • Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.
  • In addition to completing the application, you are required to provide three references (cannot be related to you) who can judge your qualifications for this position. If you have previous experience as a camp staff member at least one reference should be from a camp director or administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers.
  • Provide health care on a routine basis and as needed
  • Contact emergency personnel as needed for health care
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies
  • Deliver staff orientation session on health care practices
  • Oversee health and sanitation throughout camp
