About The Position

Historic New England seeks seasonal, part-time Guides to work weekends at the Rhode Island sites for the 2026 season. Arnold House and Clemence-Irons House in Northern R.I. are two of the oldest houses in the state and rare surviving examples of stone-enders. Casey Farm and Watson Farm in Southern R.I. are working farms with expansive seaside landscapes. All represent stories of owners, workers, designers, tenants, and Indigenous people across the centuries. Guides will conduct tours for a varied range of visitors, both in age and interest; assist with daily museum operations including tour admissions, membership sales, bookkeeping, cleaning, and opening and closing. In addition to the presentation of interpretative tours, guides will participate in daily care of the museum spaces and assist with public programs and group tours. Training is provided.

Requirements

  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have an interest in history
  • Be able to climb stairs
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Be comfortable around farm animals and children (Southern RI farms)
  • Enjoy being outdoors (Southern RI farms)
  • Be able to lift 25 pounds and walk on a half-mile of trails (Southern RI farms)
  • Must be available weekends and some weekdays
  • Have a flexible schedule
  • Be available for employment through the end of the 2026 season, May through October

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail sales and customer service desirable
