Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Worker – Fairchild AFB Location: Airway Heights, Washington – Fairchild AFB Type: Non-Exempt, Regular Work Schedule: Full-Time/ Day Shift/ (Mon – Fri) Anticipated start date: March 30, 2026. Requirements

  • Ability to safely use basic grounds maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools, with training provided.
  • Willingness to learn routine grounds care tasks, including mowing, trimming, pruning, watering, and cleaning up debris.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Reliable, able to follow directions, and work independently or with a team in a safe and positive manner.
  • Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking.
  • Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Cut grass using walk-behind or commercial grade riding mowers.
  • Operate basic grounds equipment, such as leaf blowers, string trimmers, and small power tools, safely and appropriately.
  • Trim hedges and edge around walkways, flowerbeds and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees with shears and hand tools to maintain healthy growth and proper shape.
  • Water grass, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and other landscaped areas as needed, including during dry periods, using hoses or sprinkler systems.
  • Perform trimming alongside grass cutting at all designated locations, ensuring clippings are kept off surfaced areas.
  • Remove all rubbish, debris, and trash—including rocks, paper, pinecones, limbs, and items lodged in shrubs, hedges, fences, or along foundations—prior to mowing.
  • Clear mowing debris and clippings from surfaced areas immediately after mowing, including collecting and disposing of leaves, paper, and other litter without using water to wash debris onto roadways or paved areas.
  • Trim and prune shrubs, ground covers, native plants, and trees according to their natural growth habits to promote health and seasonal appearance.
  • Remove fallen trees, limbs, and debris from improved grounds following periods of heavy wind or rainfall.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned
