About The Position

This Gardener / Horticulturist's primary responsibility consists of maintaining, and assisting in the maintenance of the landscape at the Edgefield property as directed by the Garden Manager or Assistant Garden Manager. The tasks needed to achieve this will include; hand weeding, watering, planting, transplanting, mulching, edging garden beds, pruning, shearing, dead heading herbaceous and woody plants, cultivation and grooming in the assigned gardens, staking, fertilizing, soil care, clearing debris, detection and treatment of pests and diseases affecting plants, weed control, keeping hard surfaces areas (patios, walkways, curbing, stairways, stairwells, parking lots) dean of debris, daily monitoring gardens for possible damage in the landscape and making necessary repairs or prevention, removing garbage from garden beds. This position requires knowledge of all phases of plant cultural care, with performing the appropriate tasks throughout the seasons. Sub-divisional duties within the garden departments operations may include propagation of plants from the property, seed propagation, greenhouse production and maintenance, nursery production and maintenance, seasonal decor and floristry, crafting gifts of a plant nature for plant sales, assisting customers at plant sales, assisting in vegetable garden maintenance, harvest, and production, processing plant product for multi-department use. The Gardener/Horticulturist may be required to operate small equipment including but not limited to a string trimmer, edger, lawn mower, leaf blower, small tractor, ride-on equipment, and hand power tools for minor construction and repairs. The position may require small irrigation repairs and lawn care. This position necessitates prolonged physical work, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., perform repetitive tasks, and exposure to outdoor conditions throughout the year. The position requires effective multi-tasking in an occasionally fast-paced environment, working within an often limited time frame to accomplish garden tasks of the season. The Gardener/Horticulturist must be able to work both independently and as a member of the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the horticultural, landscaping, or agricultural industries required
  • A high level of plant ID skills and a basic understanding of botany required
  • A flexible schedule including days, weekends, holidays required
  • Computer skills, familiarity with Excel, Word, Outlook required
