About The Position

Provide an outstanding customer service experience by greeting, assisting with locating merchandise or services, helping with buying decisions, and thanking all customers. Assure all customer needs are met by asking open-ended questions in regard to their activity, project, event, or need. Merchandise the sales floor to maintain a clean, organized, and inviting shopping experience. Live the Smith and Edwards Lifestyle: individuals with extensive knowledge and/or experience in gardening, lawn care, etc., will be given preference. Build positive relationships with our customers and community. Ask questions, learn our customers’ names, and be sure all their needs are met. Give each and every customer a personal shopping experience. Support the store management team by meeting sales goals, processing merchandise returns, performing inventory cycle counts, and demonstrating trustworthiness and reliability. This is a seasonal position that runs through the Spring season. Daytime availability is required. Hours will vary between 20-40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Education/Training: High School degree
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Self-motivated to complete daily tasks and prioritize
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Friendly disposition and willingness to approach customers
  • Experience: Sales and marketing experience with retail programs, establishing relationships, and working with customers
  • Previous experience in a retail environment
  • Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word, and Excel a plus.
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the business
  • This position requires consistent lifting, stocking, stacking, loading, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds frequently to load and unload customer orders, move, display, and set product.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and performing all functions as set forth.

Responsibilities

  • Stocking bins and shelves.
  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding customer service.
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management
  • Assist in the training and development of peers
  • Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards
  • Participate in the processing of new shipments and help the team to keep the receiving and back stock area clean and organized
  • Responsive for safety issues
  • Conscious of shoplifting activity
  • Aid customers in locating merchandise in the store
  • Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures and policies
