About The Position

This seasonal positio n will assist the Fisheries P rogram with fieldwork , laboratory, and data recording duties . This position will include extensive fieldwork, equi pment upkeep, extensive driving , an d may involve data entry . This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including late nights and possibly weekends .

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a B ach elor’s degree program in fisheries biology, natural resources, or related field
  • Basic k nowledge of fisheries and aquatic sampling techniques
  • Possesses a valid Michigan Operator’s License with the ability to be i nsured under Tribe’s policy
  • Ability to perform field work under strenuous conditions during all weather conditions
  • Ability to work early morning, late night hours and weekends as dictated by program needs
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality
  • A heightened attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all departments

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year or more of specific field experience in Natural Resources
  • Experience operating and trailering equipment and watercraft
  • Proficiency and demonstrable computer skills with MS Office applications
  • Experience conducting natural resources surveys and executing detailed instructions

Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparing and organizing field and sampling equipment for field activities as assigned.
  • Assists with field activities, assessments, and surveys activities to accomplish NRD Division(s) work plans.
  • Assists with maintaining, fabricating, and repairs of NRD equipment.
  • Assists with collecting biological data on sampled species and other data as required.
  • Assists with data collection and maintaining records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Assists with data entry from field assessments, surveys, monitoring and research as assigned.
  • Operates and maintains company vehicles, watercraft, ATV’s and equipment.
  • Works cooperatively with other LRBOI Tribal divisions and departments.
  • Assists Tribal Citizens in accessing Tribal and Natural Resources Department services.
  • All other position/department related duties as assigned by supervisor.
