About The Position

This role as a seasonal facilities worker is responsible for participating in preventative maintenance and/or maintenance repair work at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) buildings and grounds. Incumbent follows general instructions and standard practices of the trade. Location: This position is in INDOT's LaPorte District, position based out of Winamac. Pay Rate: This position pays an hourly rate of $18.00. Requirements

  • Valid high school diploma or GED, preferred
  • One (1) year of work experience, maintenance preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time
  • Candidate will be required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the work of outside contractors, making sure assigned work is completed appropriately and as scheduled, as well as in a safe and efficient manner
  • Identifies, makes recommendations to the proper parties, and takes appropriate action to ensure timely correction of maintenance issues/problems at all district facilities
  • Oversees operation and maintenance of the facility and/or buildings to minimize the interruption of service to various operations
  • Assists in ensuring that the facility and grounds are in a constant state of survey readiness from a maintenance perspective
  • Initiates repair parts order requests, recommends items for inventory stock, and monitors use
  • Provides service and repairs to various facilities motors, panels, transformers, lighting systems, brine systems
  • deer burners, lift stations, propane dispensers
  • Performs support work with/for other crafts/trades
  • Installs commercial doors and hardware
