The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective. The Seasonal Entomologist is directly responsible to the Staff Entomologist and shall have the following responsibilities: Seasonal Entomologists at CMMCP are contracted, seasonal positions whose daily hours or length of service may be modified at the discretion of the Executive Director but are not to exceed 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week except under certain circumstances as determined by the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • To assist in the operation of an adult mosquito surveillance light trap program under the direction of the Staff Entomologist by: a. Sorting, counting and identifying mosquitoes collected to genus and species. b. Setting up light surveillance traps in member communities various towns c. Making weekly collections from traps under established CMMCP guidelines d. Keeping accurate and detailed records of findings in CMMCP and MDPH databases e. Keeping light surveillance traps in working order during time in use.
  • To run a successful surveillance program on mosquito larvae and to keep data on such surveillance under the direction of the Staff Entomologist.
  • To maintain all licenses and certifications relevant to this position and all subordinate positions.
  • To assist in any other office or field tasks that may arise, and be available to assist with the adulticide program as determined by the Staff Entomologist, Director of Operations or Executive Director.
