About The Position

Performs inspection of construction and repairs and records maintenance information using Global Positioning System (GPS) and GIS Field Maps application. Inspection DCR St. sweeping of Parkway & Parking lots. Performs engineering duties in state and urban parks, bridges, buildings and other DCR facilities in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations and environmental standards. Engineering Aide II coordinates and inspects construction and repair by sub-contractors, reviews plans and specifications, and signs off on work details.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in civil or sanitary engineering work in such areas as construction, survey, hydraulics, design transportation, structural, mining, airport, materials, electrical, sanitary, environmental, soils, drafting, highway or architectural, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Substitutions: I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in land surveying, civil engineering, civil engineering technology or architectural technology may be substituted for the required experience.
  • II. Possession of a valid certificate issued by a recognized technical institute indicating proficiency in civil engineering technology may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil and environmental engineering.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment, materials and safety standards related to construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints and drawings.
  • Familiarity with global positioning systems (GPS) to interpret maps, to identify construction sites and to record work locations.
  • Ability to write concisely and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Experience in construction, engineering or technical discipline preferred.
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Driver’s License Class D (standard).
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Driver’s License Class A, B, or C.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and inspect street sweeping and catch basin cleaning progress as assigned.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly summaries of streets swept and catch basins cleaned using GPS unit that will be supplied.
  • Mark DCR catch basins that have been cleaned using stencil and spray paint.
  • Coordinate contractor services with Regional and District Supervisors, as necessary.
  • Direct contractor daily to work locations and log in all inspections completed
