The City of Beavercreek is accepting applications for a seasonal Code Enforcement Intern in the Planning & Development Department. GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: This position performs technical administrative work in the Planning and Development Department. An employee in this class assists the Zoning and Code Enforcement Supervisor in the daily administration of their duties in the department. Duties are performed under the direction of the Zoning and Code Enforcement Supervisor. EQUIPMENT & JOB LOCATION: This position requires general knowledge of office equipment, including personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, architectural and engineering scales, tape measure, and automobile. The primary worksite is the Beavercreek City Hall. Field work may be required at any property within the city limits. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in all positions in this class. Responds to requests for and completes zoning inspections. Reviews permit requests as assigned by supervisor. Completes property maintenance/grass inspections. Prepares and completes written communications of department. ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Issues and receives payments for permits. Issues departmental information, including maps, copies of the Zoning Code and the Property Maintenance regulations upon request. Directs questions to appropriate member of the Planning and Development Department, or to another department within the City. Attends staff meetings. Completes general office duties as assigned (e.g., answer telephone or make copies). Performs other duties as assigned. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of the local laws and ordinances pertaining to planning and zoning. General knowledge of computer systems and design/planning software. General knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, fellow employees, other city employees, and the general public. Ability to deal firmly, tactfully, and courteously with the general public. Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions. Ability to operate standard office equipment listed above. Ability to work under the direction of the Zoning and Code Enforcement Supervisor. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must be enrolled at an accredited college or university working towards a baccalaureate or graduate degree in planning, public administration, or other related field during their employment with the City of Beavercreek. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Ability to work other than normal working hours, and to work various shifts as necessary. EOE-M/F/D/V Drug-Free Workplace
