About The Position

The Cashier in the Guest Services department at Birmingham Zoo Inc. (BZI) is responsible for providing fast, friendly service to our guests while following proper cash handling procedures. This is a seasonal position supporting the Zoo’s busy spring and summer season. Employment is temporary and will last no longer than six (6) months, and may be shorter based on operational needs.

Requirements

High School Degree or GED.
Proper cash handling protocols and retail experience helpful.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Written and verbal communication skills; high energy and enthusiasm; ability to work with a team and the public.

Responsibilities

Greets all visitors with a smile and offers assistance.
Communicates clearly and in a friendly manner.
Insures accuracy of transaction to visitor and communicates appreciation for their business.
Applies cash handling procedures, asset protection policies and requirements to daily routines. Accounts for any overs or unders at closings.
Completes tasks on all checklists associated with the cashier position.
Utilizes computer in the preparation and use of daily cash worksheet and balancing at the end of each day.
Cleans and organizes assigned areas.
Serves as a team player to help others complete their objectives as needed. May be required to work in another capacity in the visitor services area as needed.
Identifies and follows all Zoo sanitation standards.
Identifies and follows strict safety protocols for guests as well as staff.
Other duties as assigned.
