About The Position

Reporting to the Camps Coordinator, the seasonal Camp Teacher will deliver engaging camp programs to students entering second through seventh grade. The program consists of three different camp content areas over Kiewit Luminarium’s six-week summer camp program during June and July 2026. This position involves leading daily classroom activities, supervising counselors and volunteers, maintaining an organized learning environment, and supporting overall camp operations. The seasonal Camp Teacher plays a key role in creating a safe, positive, and enriching experience that reflects the museum’s goal of inspiring lifelong learning through the exploration of science,technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Preference will be given to candidates who are available for the full six-week summer camp program (weeks of June 8, June 15, June 22, July 6, July 13, and July 20). However, applicants who are available for one or more full camp weeks may still be considered based on program needs. Camp Teachers must be available Monday-Friday for each week they commit to working. In the application, please indicate which camp weeks you are available to work in full.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, science, art, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in museum education, formal education, informal learning environments, or comparable public-facing operations.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating or supporting youth-focused camp or enrichment programs.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required before camp begins.
  • Ability to manage daily classroom operations while fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic camp setting.
  • Experience facilitating engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based STEM activities for youth audiences, especially with children ages 7 to 13.
  • Working knowledge of youth safety procedures, risk management practices, and emergency response protocols in camp or educational environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with children, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Adaptability and sound judgement, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected challenges.
  • Enthusiasm for science learning, creativity, and the museum’s educational mission.
  • Positive, energetic, and inclusive mindset that contributes to a welcoming and supportive camp experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace Suite.
  • English proficiency is required

Responsibilities

  • Attend the required training session on May 30th - 31st to ensure understanding of camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Be familiar with, and prepare to deliver, the developed camp curriculum, including scientific concepts behind the activities.
  • Teach camp curriculum across different content areas, delivering engaging lessons and hands-on STEM experiences throughout the six-week program.
  • Set up and organize the classroom at the start of each camp week and pack up, clean, and reset materials at the conclusion of each week.
  • Manage daily classroom operations, including schedules, transitions, camper behavior, and overall classroom flow for groups of up to 24 campers per week.
  • Supervise, direct, and support Camp Counselors and volunteers within the assigned camp, providing guidance to ensure camper safety, engagement, and positive group dynamics.
  • Foster and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all campers.
  • Monitor and update supply inventories at the end of each week, noting materials that need to be replenished or replaced.
  • Communicate classroom needs, camper concerns, and program feedback to camp leadership in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
