About The Position

Enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Parks and Recreation department in the Aquatics division seasonally. Under general supervision, assists in supervising assigned staff and in ensuring customer satisfaction and safety for employees and visitors to the seasonal, outdoor Parks and Recreation Department aquatic facilities; Landa Park Aquatic Complex and City Tube Chute. The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community. Provides customer service and assistance to patrons; responds to various types of facility/program inquiries; facilitates the timely and effective resolution of patron complaints. Prepares and assists in maintaining facilities including but not limited to actively supervising and participating in maintenance at the City Tube Chute and Landa Park Aquatic Complex (LPAC) facilities in a safe condition and to meet community needs; water quality data collection, recording and reporting; coordinated in alignment with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws. Assists in the monitoring of the performance of assigned staff to evaluate proper lifeguarding techniques and consistent rule enforcement as well as proper cash handling by Cashiers; documents and reports staff performance and training, following established operation procedures. Assists aquatic staff with activity programming including guest party bookings and private reservations; monitors facility bookings and enrollment; facilitates staff in-service trainings and certification classes. Assists in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special events coordination and setup. Assists in managing a variety of administrative activities including computer records and cash management, accident/injury reports, data collection for attendance and sales reports and work activity reports. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND at least one (1) season of experience, working in a fast-paced aquatic facility, with additional experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within two (2) weeks of employment: American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, and Oxygen Administration certification.
  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of an aquatic facility management and program planning and coordination.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision.
  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
  • Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
