About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Seasonal Agricultural Worker - Greenhouse Assistant for the Rutgers Gardens. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Performs indoor and outdoor plant maintenance tasks including but not limited to planting, watering, fertilizing, and pruning. Assists with the production and sale of marketable plant material. Supports cultural and maintenance practices in greenhouses and gardens, including but not limited to weeding, sweeping, moving plants, and organizing and cleaning greenhouse and growing supplies. Engages with students, volunteers, and coworkers in greenhouse and garden spaces. Performs duties across multiple SEBS teaching greenhouse and garden spaces.

Requirements

  • High school/vocational school education or an equivalent combination of experience and/or experience.
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform physical work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather, year-round.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, university greenhouse environment.
  • Ability to work weekends and occasional hours outside of a traditional workday, including early morning and/or evening shifts as scheduled.
  • This position will be required to report to multiple work sites.
  • Clean Driving Record.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience working in greenhouses, nurseries, farms, or other horticultural operations highly desirable.
  • Professional training/certificate and/or higher education degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience operating Argus Titan greenhouse management software.
