About The Position

The Seamstress is responsible for making, altering, and repairing a variety of cloth, rubber, and plastic articles by use of a sewing machine or by hand.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent with One (1) to Two (2) years experience in sewing.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Must have proper color vision for detecting stains, etc.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of courses in sewing or dressmaking desirable.

Responsibilities

• Marks dimensions, cuts out patterns for, fits together and sews articles, drapes, equipment covers, binders, pillow and chair covers, etc.
• Mends, hems and alters linens, drapes, etc.
• Maintains sewing machine, other equipment and supplies. Notifies supervisor when necessary repair or service is required.
• May alter certain ill-fitting garments, sew on buttons, make or repair buttonholes.
• May convert larger worn and damaged items into usable smaller items.
• May maintain inventory or other related records as required.
• Stamps necessary articles with hospital identifying marks.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
