About The Position

The Lead Clerk for the Seafood department at Fred Meyer is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while supervising all functions and activities within the Meat/Seafood department. This role emphasizes maintaining a safe and clean environment, supporting daily operations, and promoting the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The Lead Clerk will also be involved in training associates, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.
  • Adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling seafood.
  • Retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Meat/Seafood department.
  • Support the day-to-day functions of the Meat/Seafood operations.
  • Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.
  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
  • Train and develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Cut seafood to customers' requests using proper cutting equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
