About The Position

The Department of Biology at Barry University is seeking Student Tutors for various biology courses. This position is to be performed face-to-face. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0-12 months of related experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve academic questions related to the subject being tutored.
  • Inspire students to discover scientific findings and solutions on their own.
  • Apply time management and scientific principles when working with students.
  • Possess basic computer skills and be familiar with lab equipment.
  • Ability to type, email, alphabetize, label, and log.
  • Familiarity with procedures and protocols of necessary lab equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to express written ideas well and communicate respectfully and clearly with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Must have earned a grade of 'A' in the subject area.

Responsibilities

  • Introduce self to class and explain when and where tutoring services will be offered.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally to clarify content presented in lectures and laboratories.
  • Lead review sessions and work with individuals as well as in group settings.
  • Adhere to a set schedule of available hours posted throughout the department.
  • Confer and plan with professors to provide teaching support.
  • Become enrolled as a user on the Blackboard course website.
  • Obtain copies of necessary texts, notes, and syllabi for reference.
  • Utilize the Barry email service to stay in contact with students.
  • Retain copies of correspondence from students.
  • Maintain and submit sign-in sheets and logs of study sessions.
  • Notify supervisor in advance of absences and arrange for coverage.
  • Submit new hire paperwork and timesheets accurately and timely.
