Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Sr Principal Data Scientist. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the SDS Division. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing, engineering, and analyzing diverse data sets across various business areas. Our team is dedicated to developing a culture of data-driven decision-making and creating business value by utilizing data analytics techniques. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify, develop, and deploy data solutions that align with our strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, a self-starter, and capable of challenging the status quo while driving innovation in data engineering solutions. This position provides the chance to apply your expertise in data engineering to projects with significant impact.

  • Lead the design and construction of scalable data pipelines to integrate various data sources within the defense sector.
  • Develop and optimize data models and database management systems, working independently and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Implement and enhance ETL processes and data warehousing solutions to ensure efficient data flow and storage.
  • Apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques for system modeling and predictive maintenance projects.
  • Maintain and improve DevOps practices, including version control, automated testing, and continuous integration/deployment for data workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, translate them into data-driven solutions, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Ensure adherence to data security protocols and compliance with industry regulations, demonstrating expertise in best practices.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay at the forefront of data engineering trends and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of experience OR Master’s degree with at least 6 years of experience or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
  • Experience in designing, building, optimizing and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure with tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory.
  • Proficiency in Python or Scala for data processing; experience with querying and optimizing large datasets with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, or MongoDB).
  • Hands-on experience building end-to-end Bayesian predictive models, including feature engineering, model selection, training/testing, evaluation, and deployment into production environments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical details with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with cloud services like AWS (e.g., S3, Redshift, Lambda), Azure (e.g., Synapse, Data Lake), or GCP (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow).
  • Experience with version control systems like Git and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of real-time data streaming tools such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or Google Pub/Sub.
  • Understanding of distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Databricks or Palantir #Sentinelsoftware.
