About The Position

The Scuba Instructor position at Rutgers University involves teaching and assisting with scuba program courses in accordance with PADI standards. The role is part-time and requires conducting open water certification dives, preparing scuba equipment, and ensuring safety during diving activities. The instructor will work closely with dive masters and volunteers to provide a safe and educational experience for students in the Scientific Diving courses offered by the Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification with active teaching status.
• Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification & Oxygen Administration certification.
• Valid driver's license and Defensive Driving certification.
• Demonstrated scuba skills, including performing rescue activities and general watermanship skills.
• Ability to instruct various PADI scuba courses.
• Proficient in dive rescue and in the demonstration of standard scuba skills.
• Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Teaches and assists with scuba program courses and activities according to PADI standards and safe diving practices.
• Assists with preparing scuba equipment for classes and performs minor maintenance.
• Conducts and assists with open water certification dives at off-site program locations.
• Works cooperatively with dive masters, instructors, and scuba volunteers.
• Tags equipment for repair and inspects safety equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
