About The Position

We're seeking a skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner who thrives under pressure and is passionate about delivering critical care where it matters most—during life-saving transports. As a vital member of our elite transport team, you'll be the lifeline for our most vulnerable patients during their most critical moments. You'll monitor and manage complex respiratory cases in real-time—tracking arterial blood gases, vital signs, and lung function while collaborating with physicians to ensure optimal outcomes. From operating sophisticated mechanical ventilators and high-flow oxygen systems to expertly managing ventilator-dependent patients during transport, you'll bring ICU-level care to the critical journey between facilities. This isn't just patient transport—it's precision medicine on wheels. You'll set up and maintain life-sustaining equipment, adapt respiratory strategies to changing conditions, and make split-second decisions that directly impact survival. Your attention to detail will ensure every device functions flawlessly, every chart tells the complete story, and every patient understands their care. As a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) on LifeLine EMS's Critical Care Team (CCT), you are contracted employees through The 9 Line Company. CCT RCP’s role is central to the delivery of exceptional patient care during medical transport. Transports, and manages/monitors mechanical ventilation for chronically vented patients and or in conjunction with a CCT-RN for acutely ventilated patients who are sick or injured persons in the pre-hospital and inter-facility settings, as authorized by the local EMS Agency Medical Director, by performing the following duties, within the prescribed scope of practice and all applicable regulatory guidelines for pre-hospital care. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients in various critical and high-stress situations. Working collaboratively with all members of the LifeLine team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of our patients. This position requires a RCP license, CPR certification, a minimum of two (2) years of recent critical care experience within the last 18 months, PALS and ACLS certifications, and a commitment to maintaining clinical excellence.

  • Current RCP license and certified for unrestricted practice in the state of California
  • Experience in respiratory, emergency, and intensive care
  • Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Experience with respiratory equipment

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring patient physiological responses to therapy such as arterial blood gases, vital signs or blood chemistry, and lung function changes, and consulting with physicians if there are adverse reactions.
  • Transporting ventilator dependent patients while maintaining and managing respiratory strategy and compromise.
  • Working as part of a team to transport dependent patients in the ambulance.
  • Setting up and operating devices including mechanical ventilators, high flow oxygen administration system, and capnography monitoring devices.
  • Following specified parameters of treatment.
  • Inspecting, testing, cleaning, and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.
  • Ordering equipment repairs when necessary.
  • Explaining health care treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
  • Measuring and managing respiratory status in route and prior to transfer of care at destination.
  • Reviews paperwork for accuracy and correct process.
  • Must participate in scheduled and unscheduled onsite compliance audits.
  • Implements corrective/preventive measures as determined by the Clinical Safety.
  • Cooperate with Internal Audit, Compliance and Dispatch Operations on any recommendations and changes to compliance and legal workflow issues.
  • Takes swift and immediate action in accordance with Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance on any areas of concern.
  • Complies and enforces all policies and procedures.
  • Has successfully completed all required Compliance Training within the required time.
  • Has had no compliance-related corrective action during the current review period.
  • Participate in Safety and Risk training and activities.
  • Serves as a company representative promoting positive patient relationships through proactive involvement in public business and community activities.
