About The Position

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, this position cares for women and newborns. The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech uses sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and surgically assists physicians with procedures. Location: Utah Valley Hospital - Provo, Utah. Department/Unit: Labor and Delivery. Entry Rate: $18.12+ based on patient care experience. Shift Details: Full-time 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts. Schedule: Variable - days, evenings, swings, nights, weekends and holidays required. Benefits Eligible: Yes (Health, Vision, Dental Insurance, 401(K), Education + many more).

Requirements

  • Current CNA Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Completion of nursing assistant training program (verification of nursing assistant training program completion required and C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire) and BLS.
  • Completion of a fundamentals of nursing class with a passing grade within the past two years (official transcript required to verify completion of class and C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire) and BLS.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment/supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process.
  • May be responsible to ensure that birthing rooms are maintained and stocked appropriately.
  • Assists patients with bed bath/showering, use of bed pan and/or using restroom, foley catheter care, and ambulation.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs of patient and newborns appropriate before, during and after delivery.
  • Prepares room for vaginal delivery by preparing and draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment including the delivery table, and assisting the RN.
  • Prepares room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for appropriate procedures, setting up and passing instruments, completes all instrument, sponge and sharp counts with RN.
  • Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure.
  • Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN.
  • Will do clerical duties as assigned.
