About The Position

Scrub Technician – Ophthalmic Surgery Center We are seeking a detail-oriented and team-focused Scrub Technician to join our fast-paced Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role is essential in supporting our surgical team by ensuring procedures run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. Position Overview: The Scrub Technician is responsible for preparing surgical instruments and supplies, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting the surgeon during ophthalmic procedures. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting overall surgical operations.

Requirements

  • Previous surgical scrub experience preferred (ophthalmology experience a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical procedures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care

Responsibilities

  • Serve as First Assistant to the surgeon during procedures
  • Prepare and set up all instruments and surgical supplies for each case
  • Prepare and drape patients for surgery
  • Assist the physician throughout surgical procedures
  • Maintain a sterile field at all times
  • Clean, process, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Ensure proper use and troubleshooting of surgical equipment
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines for all equipment use
  • Maintain stock supplies and ensure appropriate inventory levels (minimum two-week supply)
  • Track and manage inventory systems, including IOL (intraocular lens) inventory
  • Document and coordinate equipment repairs and maintain repair logs
  • Provide inventory updates and reordering information as needed
  • Assist physician and nursing staff during laser procedures
  • Operate Argon and YAG lasers as directed by the physician
  • Set laser controls and document treatment details
  • Ensure safe operation and secure handling of laser equipment
  • Stay current with advancements in ophthalmic surgery and operating room practices
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
  • Collaborate effectively with all team members
  • Make recommendations for improving processes, equipment, and efficiency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
