About The Position

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for providing security and safety for patients, associates, and visitors within a healthcare environment. This role includes being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, conducting security patrols, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with laws and hospital policies. The officer must maintain a professional appearance in uniform and demonstrate flexibility in working hours and locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be mentally alert at all times.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Must manage personal stress and potential violence.
  • Minimum two years of armed security experience preferred, or Honorable Military Service as a substitute.
  • Law enforcement and healthcare security experience preferred.
  • Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required for Texas positions.
  • Completion of verbal de-escalation training within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of IAHSS Basic Security Certification within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare security is preferred.
  • Law enforcement experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
  • Identifies and reports trends related to security issues and recommends actions.
  • Takes initial information for incident reports, ensuring proper grammar and factual accuracy, and submits reports timely.
  • Responds promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisors and other communication methods.
  • Handles the collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items and patient valuables according to policy.
  • Enforces all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and applicable state laws.
  • Controls and enforces facility parking through patrols and citations as necessary.
  • Assists clinical and non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors.
  • Demonstrates competence in client care responsibilities according to the needs of persons served.
  • Operates security systems and equipment, including CCTV and communication devices.
  • Reports safety hazards observed during security rounds to promote a safe environment.
  • Adapts client assessment and care methods to accommodate individual needs.
  • Demonstrates competence with security equipment and techniques, including firearms and non-crisis intervention.
