As a Screed Operator you are responsible to safely operate machine that spreads and levels bituminous paving material on subgrade of highways and streets to control width, depth, and quality of material being placed.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background.
  • Equipment maintenance & operation knowledge.
  • Job requires steady to intermittent physical activity including standing, stooping kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven ground, shoveling, and raking.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
  • Perform work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions or behaviors.
  • Controls material taken into paver and the depth of material being distributed through the paver and smoothness of mat.
  • Safely and properly operate adjusting mechanism of paving machine. Bolts extensions to screed to adjust width as needed.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisor and testing technician if there are issues with laydown operations.
  • Heat screed at beginning of shift/ Clean screed at end of shift.
  • Observes distribution of paving material along screed and controls direction of screed.
  • Position is expected to assist in operating other pieces of paving equipment including asphalt rollers, power brooms, skid steer loaders, and loaders as needed.
  • Must be willing to work flexible shifts that include days, nights, and weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing to do physical labor.
  • Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
