About The Position

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Attend safety meetings and participate in safety program. Weighing and purchasing inbound scrap, obtaining required information from customers for all transactions, complete purchasing and shipping documents and daily reconciliation of transactions. Responsible for following all legal requirements on purchasing materials. Communicate pricing information and material specifications to customers with the ability to connect well with all levels of customers and management. Ensure good customer relations by acting in a courteous, safe and professional manner. Interact with employees on other scales to verify/restrict duplication of purchases. Inspect materials for non-acceptable items Ensure metals that are purchased are correct and properly classified. Control traffic patterns in yard and direct customers to proper location to unload materials. Willing to cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed. Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-stop environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Minimum of 3-years previous customer service preferably in the scrap metal or construction industries.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, work independently, multitask and have excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Take an organized approach to work and work area.
  • Demonstrate good work ethic and is dependable.
  • Ability to work standing or walking for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes of priority and complete job tasks safely and effectively without constant supervision.
  • Computer experience, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and the ability to learn in house systems.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Flexible to work overtime, off-hours, weekends, and holidays in an industrial environment which includes being outdoors in all weather conditions.
