About The Position
Scrap Metal Services, L.L.C., a prominent scrap metal recycling and processing company, is seeking a dedicated Scrap Inspector for its Mill Services site located in Burns Harbor, at the Cleveland Cliffs Steel Mill. This facility operates 24/7, providing multiple shifts to accommodate the demands of the industry. The Scrap Inspector will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of incoming and outgoing scrap materials, which is vital for maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards. The primary responsibilities of the Scrap Inspector include conducting thorough inspections of incoming scrap materials transported by rail and truck. This involves both visual assessments and the use of a spectrometer to test the quality of the scrap. The inspector will also be responsible for maintaining the scrap piles, ensuring that materials are organized and accessible. Monitoring processes, materials, and surroundings is essential to detect any potential issues, and the inspector will need to observe and gather information from various sources to assess problems effectively. In addition to inspecting in/outbound loads of scrap metals, the Scrap Inspector will direct drivers throughout the facility, designating appropriate dumping areas. Identifying non-conforming or out-of-specification materials is a critical aspect of this role, as it helps uphold the company's quality standards. The position requires a proactive approach to safety, adhering to all local, state, OSHA, and environmental regulations. Daily safety checks must be performed and documented, and the inspector is expected to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors.
