About The Position

The SCNP Communications and Marketing Specialist position at the Virginia Department of Education involves managing social media platforms, communications, and website content for the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs. This part-time role focuses on social marketing, drafting promotional content, and ensuring effective communication strategies.

Requirements

• Knowledge of public relations/communications techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of desktop publishing, website development and maintenance, database programs, and social media.
• Basic knowledge of school and community nutrition programs and the federal and state laws governing them.
• Knowledge of state agency function, school administration, state and local government procedures and policies.
• Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
• Organizational management and communication skills.
• Computer skills in database management, spreadsheet applications, word processing, presentation software, internet, and web-based systems.
• Skills in photography techniques, photo editing, videoing, and social media platforms.
• Ability to manage and monitor social media platforms, campaigns, and analytics.
• Ability to manage websites and create web content.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.
• Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals from a wide range of organizations.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; major in nutrition, food service, public health, education, marketing, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Office's social media platforms.
• Draft promotional content and communications, including the Office's quarterly newsletter.
• Oversee website content management and updates.
• Monitor social media campaigns and analytics.
