The Opportunity ​ Our location in Abbott Park, IL, currently has an opportunity for a Scientist role. The Scientist will contribute to the research and development of diagnostic assays and reagent systems within the Transfusion Medicine or Core Diagnostics franchise. This role focuses primarily on Developmental Stability Studies supporting new product development, including feasibility, verification & validation (V&V), and lifecycle management activities of in-vitro diagnostic products. The scientist will generate high‑quality experimental data, support cross‑functional teams, engage the troubleshooting/investigation, and ensure robust scientific documentation in accordance with Abbott design control, quality system requirement and good documentation practices.

Requirements

  • B.S in biological or physical sciences with minimum of 2-3 yrs of experience or M.S. with 2 years' experience
  • Working knowledge of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data. Familiarity with laboratory techniques relevant to diagnostic assay development and stability testing.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Computer skills - ability to learn new computer programs

Nice To Haves

  • Molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry training are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • With oversight, designs, execute and support evaluation of developmental stability studies for reagents, controls, calibrators, and assay components across different phases of product development
  • With minimal guidance, authors and executes stability protocols, experimental plans, data summaries, and reports.
  • Contributes to development and maintenance of SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Analyzes experimental data requiring evaluation of identifiable factors and trends. Identifies issues, supports troubleshooting, and proposes potential solutions with guidance from senior team members.
  • Accurately documents development work in Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN) and approved data systems. Presents data clearly within the project team and contributes to scientific discussions.
  • Works effectively within cross‑functional teams including R&D, Quality, and Project Management. Provides input to project planning and supports execution of assigned tasks and deliverables.
  • Ensures compliance with Abbott quality systems and applicable regulatory standards in a regulated R&D environment.
