Sirius Staffing is seeking a Scientist for a temp-to-hire position in Birmingham, AL. This role involves a variety of microbiological assays and testing, including the use of turbidimetric, chromogenic, and LAL methods for the detection of bacterial endotoxins. The Scientist will be responsible for conducting microbial limits tests and bioburden determinations, as well as the manipulation and maintenance of ATCC microorganisms and microbial isolates. Additionally, the position requires performing sterility tests, growth promotion, and particle sizing using various instrumentation and microscopy techniques. The Scientist will also be tasked with identifying bacteria and fungi through microscopy and both phenotypic and genotypic methods. Environmental monitoring and trending will be a key responsibility, which includes monitoring classified areas using active and passive air sampling methods, as well as RODAC and swab surface sampling methods to detect bacteria and fungi. The role involves utilizing CliMet air sampling methods to detect total particulates and trending this data to identify anomalies and characterize transient and resident microflora. Utilities testing is another critical aspect of the position, which includes testing city water for total microbial count and the absence of enteric organisms, as well as pre-treat water, clean steam, and Water for Injection for total microbial count and presence of endotoxins. The Scientist will also test nitrogen and process air for total microbial count and total particulates. Technical writing is required, as the Scientist will develop and execute protocols and Standard Operating Procedures for microbiology equipment, assays, and test methods. They will review data generated by Associate Scientists and provide guidance and training to other microbiologists on instrument operation and test methods. Troubleshooting instruments in the event of problems is also part of the role. The Scientist must utilize classical microbiological methods for microorganism identification according to the current version of Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology. All responsibilities must be performed in compliance with the company's quality systems, and adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies is mandatory. Conducting laboratory activities safely, using MSDS to establish chemical hazards, and reporting any incidents that could threaten laboratory personnel safety are essential duties.
