About The Position

The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has a full time opportunity for a Scientist for the Department of Research in Miami, Florida. Requirements

  • Doctorate degree - Philosophy (PhD) required
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience required

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees research employees, students, and other relevant staff.
  • Authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent applications.
  • Assists in the development of training materials for research staff.
  • Plans experiments and records and analyzes findings.
  • Prepares research proposals and funding applications.
  • Ensures that all activities are in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.
  • Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Contributes to research programs in retinal biology, stem cell–based disease modeling, and related translational areas using contemporary molecular, cellular, and genomic approaches.
  • Designs, executes, and interprets complex experiments involving cell culture systems, organoid models, gene regulation studies, and multimodal assays.
  • Develops and applies advanced analytical methods, including high-throughput sequencing and single-cell profiling, to investigate mechanisms relevant to ocular and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Supports collaborative projects by providing expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and integration of multi-omics datasets.
  • Maintains and optimizes laboratory protocols and workflows to ensure reproducibility, quality control, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Contributes to mentoring and training of students, fellows, and staff in laboratory techniques, experimental strategy, and scientific communication.
  • Participates in the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, progress reports, and scientific presentations.
  • Engages in interdisciplinary collaboration across departmental and institutional teams to advance research initiatives and foster innovation.
